Oyuwari or Mizuwari

Shochu Mizuwari (Water Mix)

A classic way to enjoy shochu that highlights its flavor while softening the alcohol.

2 oz Nikaido Shochu

4 oz cold still water

Ice (Optional)

Directions
Fill a glass with ice. Add Nikaido Shochu, then pour in the water. Stir gently and enjoy.

Ratio: 1 part Nikaido to 2 parts water

Shochu Oyuwari (Hot Water Mix)

A traditional Japanese preparation, especially popular in cooler months. The warm water opens up the aroma and sweetness of the shochu.

2 oz Nikaido Shochu

4 oz hot water (about 160–175°F / 70–80°C)

Directions
Pour the hot water into a heatproof glass or cup. Add Nikaido Shochu and stir gently. Enjoy warm.

Ratio: 1 part shochu to 2 parts hot water

Traditional Tip: In Japan, the hot water is often poured first, followed by Nikaido shochu. The natural convection gently mixes the drink without the need for stirring.
